Steam page teardown: Police Chief Simulator — 7 fixes before 17 September

This page is 13 days from launch and scores 89 out of 100. Almost all of the loss sits in two places a dev can change in an afternoon. The description opens on a roadmap image instead of the game, and every video on the page is a release date card.

89

out of 100, read by the Steam Page Analyzer on 4 September 2026

Description

20 / 20

2674 characters, 173 unique keywords. Depth is not the problem.

Screenshots

12 / 15

7 screenshots, one short of the band where sequencing starts to pay.

Trailer

7 / 10

3 videos, all three named as a release date announcement teaser.

Tags

7 / 10

20 tags. “Simulation” and “First-Person” lead; “Management” is third.

Three readings

Best existing asset

The long description. It names the loop in real detail: register cases, examine them, execute, hire detectives, upgrade the station.

Main conversion leak

The first thing under the media is an h1 that says “Roadmap” and a full-width roadmap image. The game is introduced second.

Fastest win

Move the Roadmap block below About the Game and set a gameplay video as the featured one. Both are edits, not new assets.

Positioning

The page has the content and hides the lead

Most pages we read this close to launch are thin. This one is not. The long description runs 2674 characters and explains a real system. Case registration, case examination, case execution, hiring detectives and office workers, patrol units, station upgrades.

It also has 18 languages, a live demo, a separate Prologue, a confirmed date and a readable capsule. That is a page built by people who did the work. The problem is the order things appear in, and the order is fixable without commissioning anything.

Description

A roadmap is the first thing under the trailer

The long description begins with a heading that reads “Roadmap” and a full-width roadmap image. “About the Game” is the second heading on the page. A visitor scrolling down from the media therefore reads a development schedule before a single line about the game.

Roadmaps work on people who already decided. They are a retention asset. Placed first, this one costs the page its opening sentence. That sentence is good: “Immerse yourself as a young Chief of Police and take charge of a County Police Station.”

Move the Roadmap block to the bottom. Nothing else about the description needs to change before 17 September.

Trailer

Three videos, three date cards, no gameplay

The page carries three videos. Their names, in order: “Police Chief Simulator Release Date Announcement Teaser”, “Police Chief Simulator DEMO - Release Date Announcement Teaser”, “Police Chief Simulator: Prologue - Early Days Release Date Announcement Teaser”.

All three exist to announce a date. None of them shows the game being played. A buyer who has never heard of this game watches the featured video to answer one question: what do I do for an hour. A date card cannot answer it.

The fix is a capture, not a production. Follow one case start to finish. A report lands, it gets registered, leads get collected, an officer gets assigned, an arrest closes it, the money buys an upgrade. Sixty seconds, no narration needed.

Copy

The short description sells a shooter

The current short description is 225 characters and ends three of its four sentences on an exclamation mark. Its final verb phrase is “fight crime”, which is what a first-person shooter about police would say.

This game is a management sim. Its actual pleasures are a case board filling up, a roster of hired detectives, and a station that gets bigger because you closed cases. The short description names none of those as the thing you do.

Suggested short description

Run a county police station. Register incoming crimes, build the case file, then assign detectives and patrol units. Every closed case pays for a bigger station and better tools. Winston Springs is losing to the Shadow's Gang, and you have the desk.

That version keeps Winston Springs and the gang, and it names the loop in the first six words. It also gives Steam search the word “police station” next to the word “detectives”.

Tags

The word buyers search is in third place

The first five tags are Simulation, First-Person, Management, Life Sim and Immersive Sim. Twenty tags in total, which is the right number.

The order is the issue. “Simulation” is the shelf, not the game, and it competes with every farming, trucking and hospital title on Steam. “First-Person” describes the camera. The tag a buyer of this game actually shops for is “Management”, and Steam weights early tags most.

Lead with Management, keep Simulation and Immersive Sim in the top five, and drop Life Sim. Life Sim promises daily routine and relationships, and a dev who ships a case-management game to people expecting Stardew gets punished in reviews.

Screenshots

Seven shots, and the growth is not visible

Seven screenshots is one short of the range where a carousel can make a complete argument. The bigger issue is what the set has to prove. This is a game about a station getting bigger, so the carousel should show small and then show large.

Order the first three as a silent pitch. Case board with real case data, an officer being assigned off a roster, the station visibly expanded. Add an eighth shot of the late-game station at full size. If every shot is an interior at the same zoom, the page reads as one room.

Store features

Three features listed, and none of them is achievements

The page lists Single-player, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing. No Steam Achievements, no trading cards, no controller support declared.

A game about closing cases and upgrading a station has an achievement list already implied by its own progression. Achievements add a row of content to the store page, give reviewers a completion frame, and cost no marketing time. This one needs engine work, so it is the fix most likely to miss the date.

Punch list

Seven fixes, ranked by impact

Ranked by impact

  1. 01

Move the Roadmap block below About the Game.

    Highest impact

The long description opens with a heading that reads “Roadmap” and a 1560px roadmap image. “About the Game” comes after it. A visitor scrolling past the trailer meets a development plan before they meet the game. Roadmaps reassure people who already care, and do nothing for launch traffic still deciding.

  2. 02

Put a gameplay video in the featured slot.

    Highest impact

All three videos are date cards: the base teaser, the DEMO teaser, the Prologue teaser. Nothing on the page shows a minute of uninterrupted play. Cut a 60-second capture of one case, registration through arrest, and feature it. Keep the date cards as videos 2 to 4.

  3. 03

Rewrite the short description around the management loop.

    High impact

The current 225 characters open on “Welcome to Winston Springs, Officer” and close on “solve cases, and fight crime”. Three of its four sentences end on an exclamation mark. The strongest verb it lands on is “fight crime”, which describes a shooter. This is a case-management sim with a hiring tree, so say that instead.

  4. 04

Promote “Management” into first place in the tag order.

    High impact

“Simulation” is the shelf the game sits on, not the game, and “First-Person” describes the camera. “Management” is the word a buyer of this game types into search, and it sits third. Reorder so Management leads and keep Simulation in the top five. Drop “Life Sim”: it promises a daily routine this game does not deliver.

  5. 05

Add screenshot 8 and sequence the first three as a silent pitch.

    Medium impact

Seven screenshots is one short of the range where the carousel can carry a full argument. The first three should each prove something different. Show the case board with real case data, an officer being assigned off a roster, then the station visibly bigger. If three shots in a row show interiors at the same zoom, the page reads as one room.

  6. 06

Turn on Steam Achievements before launch.

    Medium impact

The page lists exactly three features: Single-player, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing. A progression game about closing cases and expanding a station has an achievement list already written into its design. Achievements also give the store page another row of content and give reviewers a completion frame. This is engine work, not marketing work, so it is the fix most likely to slip past 17 September.

  7. 07

    Publish recommended system requirements.

    Medium impact

The page has minimum requirements and no recommended ones. On a management sim the late game is the demanding state: more officers, more cases, a larger station, more simulation running at once. A buyer with a modest machine cannot tell from this page whether hour 20 will still run. One extra spec column removes that doubt.

Bottom line

Two edits carry most of the gain

Police Chief Simulator does not need a new pitch, new art or a new trailer budget. It needs the roadmap moved down and a gameplay capture moved up. Both are afternoon jobs, and both land before 17 September.

Everything else on this list is worth doing, in the order given. The page is already better than most pages at this stage. It is losing to its own running order.
